VAN TRUMP / TRUMP, SHEETS

My husband has worked on restoring an abandoned cemetery about 7 mi. west of Cedar Rapids, NE (Boone County). One Civil War veteran is buried there. No other family members were. Wish we could find someone who could claim him. Cemetery was known as Timber Creek Cemetery in 1884; and later changed to Enfield Cemetery
Van Trump, Isaiah (Civil War Marker)
      Co. G  45th Iowa Infantry
      Born 1846
      Died Aug. 8, l893.  Age 47
He was in prison during the war, and died of health problems developed in prison.
The Veterans now put a flag on his tombstone for Memorial Day.

I have a Hiram Trump/Van Trump that married into my Sheets family. He had at least two brothers, Daniel and Isaiah. The names Trump and Van Trump were used interchangeably, evidently according to each family's choice. They were in Augusta Co., VA in the early 1800s, then moved in the 1830s to Ohio, showing up in Hardin County, Pleasant Twp. with my Henry Sheets. They all moved in about 1847 to Henry county, Iowa, where they are listed in the 1850 census, again along with my Henry Sheets.

Hiram's wife was Elizabeth Sheets, Henry's daughter. According to the Henry Co., history biography, the Van Trumps came from Holland. The 1850 census of Henry Co., IA shows:

Daniel TRUMP 44 b. VA
Sarah 43 b. VA
Abigail 18 b. OH
Jacob 15 b. OH
Ruth 13 b. OH
Hamion? 10 b. OH
Andrew 3 b. IA

Hiram TRUMP 43 b. VA
Jacob 18 b. VA
Melonia? 17 b. OH
Mary 14 b. OH
William 11 b. OH
Susan 9 b. OH
Rebecca 7 b. OH
Vranna 4 b. OH
William SHEETS 5 b. OH

Isaiah TRUMP 40 b. VA
Jemima? 31 b. OH
Mary 10 b. OH
Sarah Ann 6 b. OH
William H. 4 b. OH
Isaiah 3 b. OH
Hiram 1 b. IA

The Isaiah, son of Isaiah, is the right age to be the Isaiah who is buried in NE. In addition - my Sheets family had moved to southern Wheeler Co., NE about 1883, not far from Cedar Rapids, so possibly the Isaiah of Henry Co., IA is the same as the one buried in Boone County, NE.

I know from a trip to Henry Co., IA in 1987 that there are still some Trumps/Van Trumps living in the area. A check with the Henry Co. Hist Soc and/or the library may turn up a genealogically inclined descendant. My knowledge of the Trumps later than the time of the Civil War is very limited, but I would be interested in helping on this search, if we decide that the Henry Co. Isaiah is the one you are looking for.
