and in 1869 started westward landing in Tekamah in November of that year.
   January 28th, 1880, Mr. Austin was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Gregg and together they still live on one of the pleasantest and best farms in Arizona township.

   MILTON L. REYMAN was born February 10th, 1832, at Salem, Indiana. In 1857 he got the fever for western conquest and became a resident of Kansas in that year, stopping at Kansas City, Fort Scott and at Lawrence he pre-empted a piece of Uncle Sam's domain. He remained there only a few months when he came northward into Nebraska stopping first in Omaha and then in Washington county and in November of that year arrived in Burt county. He says that this section of Nebraska seemed like heaven beside Kansas and Missouri at that time. Mr. Reyman has been a continuous resident here since that time and has a large family of Nebraska born children all a credit to him and to their state.
   Mr. Reyman was united in marriage November 5th, 1855 to Miss Elizabeth Bundy.

   CHARLES M. BROOKINGS was born in Woolwich, Maine, April 8th, 1828. He was united in marriage November 28th, 1852 to Mary E. Dutton. He continued to reside in Maine until the year 1880, following the trade of carpenter and farmer. April 1st, 1880, the family arrived in Tekamah and here he gave his entire attention to the carpenter trade. He is a great lover of Nebraska, and although he makes frequent visits to the state of nativity, he calls this home. While in Maine to spend the summer of 1892, Mr. and Mrs. Brookings celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Mr. Brookings has been called upon by the citizens of this city on several occasions to serve them in various municipal offices and is highly honored by his many acquaintances. In 1863 he tendered

his services to the Union and enlisted in Co. E, 21 Regt. at Woolwich, Maine.

   JAMES H. CAMPBELL was born December 20th, 1839, and died October 26th, 1901. The place of his birth was North Harpersfield, Deleware county. New York, where he resided until moving west. He took a homestead in the Bell Creek valley in the spring of 1861, being among the first settlers there. For three years he served the county as County Commissioner.
   January first, 1866, Mr. Campbell was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Goodrich, who with him shared the hardships of early pioneer life and after his death left the old homestead and moved to Tekamah where she now resides.

   WILLIAM E. CHASE was born August 14th, 1843, at Attica, N. Y. Before coming to Nebraska he resided for three years in Minnesota from which state he returned to New York state. He was united in marriage December 22nd, 1865. to Miss Ann Eliza Snyder and together they came to Nebraska, arriving in Tekamah, March 12th, 1870. Their first home was on the farm now owned by C. E. Barker which they rented. Later Mr. Chase purchased the fine tract of land which was his home for so many years. In 1895 Mr. Chase and family purchased residence property in this city and have since resided in town. He was called to serve for two terms as Member of the Board of Education of this city.
   During the war of the rebellion Mr. Chase served the Union as a member of Company A, 9th N. Y. Cavalry.

   BENJAMIN C. HOPEWELL was born in Vermillion county, Illinois, October 26th, 1819, and died at Tekamah, August 14th, 1901. In early childhood he accompanied his parents to Monroe county, Indiana, where he grew to manhood and where he was married to Miss Sarah B. Reeves, October 25th, 1842. In 1851 he moved with his family to Collin county, Texas,
