Silas L. BLACK, Private, of Sullivan; an "only son of a widowed mother," enlisted Sept. 6, and mustered in Sept. 17, 1861; He died of disease at Budd's Ferry, Md., Dec. 20, 1861. His body was that of the first soldier brought back to town for burial. The event occasioned much sympathy and interest. The burial was in the cemetery at East Sullivan, VI. 31.
