LINN HISTORICAL EVENTS

  

            The Linn County Museum Friends are having another Carriage Me Back program in Brownsville on Saturday, May 4 with tours starting from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  On Sunday, May 5 they start from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.  Tickets for the 1918 event are $8.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12.  To reserve a timed ticket call the museum at 541-466-3390.

 

            The Boston Mill Society Annual Meeting will be held at Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site east of Shedd at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 18.  You are welcome to attend.  There will be guided tours of the mill and refreshments.  The Gift shop will be open with T-shirts, sweaters, tote bags, aprons, art cards, and mugs.

 

            Beginning at 9:00 am on Sunday, May 19 there will be Spring Cleaning at the Miller Cemetery at the corner of Millersburg Drive & Woods Road.  Bring lunch, tools, and stories. There will be a Miller/ Simpson-Hale/Allphin Cemetery Assoc. meeting at noon.

 

            From 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday May 24 The Monteith Historical Society will hold Pioneer Story Time at the Monteith House, just south of the post office in Albany.  The Saturday, June 15 Living History Event at the Monteith House will feature Daily Life in 1863.  Visit the Monteith House anytime from noon to 4:00 pm, on Wednesday through Saturday from June 12 to September 14.

 

            Albany’s 36th Annual Tour of Historic Homes is scheduled for Saturday, July 27 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. This year’s tour features six historic homes, two churches and three museums. This is a self-guided tour and many of the homes and buildings are within walking distance of each other in the downtown area. Ticket price also includes trolley and/or horse-drawn wagon rides and will be available at the Albany Visitor’s Association at 3rd & Lyon in Albany.

 

            The Linn County Historical Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.  It is well worth several visits.  It is housed in the relocated railraod depot and railroad cars at 101 Park Avenue in Brownsville.

 

            The East Linn Museum in Sweet Home is open from June through August, on Tuesday - Sunday from  11:00 am - 4:00 pm.

 

            The Sweet Home Genealogical Society is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and Thursday and Friday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.  On the fourth Tuesday of the month they are open until 8:00 pm.  For out of the area visitors they can open earlier or close later depending on the need.  They have monthly meetings at 1:00 pm on the third Saturday of each month, except July and August.  The address is 1223 Kalmai Street in Sweet Home.

 

            The Lebanon Genealogical Society has monthly programs at 12:30 on the first Friday of the month at the Lebanon Public Library meeting room.

 

            The Linn Genealogical Society has monthly programs at 1:00 pm on the first Saturday of the month at the Albany Public Library meeting room.

 

            The Scio Historical Society’s Depot Museum is open from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, May - October.

 

            To arrange for a visit to the Shedd Museum call Museum Coordinator Wade Doerfler at 541-369-2440.  If you would like to volunteer to assist at the museum contact Wade.  For now the museum,  south of the post office on First Street, is open by appointment.  There is no mail delivery.
