August Ableiter, son of John and Mary Ableiter, was born February 25, 1861 in Liberty township, Grant County, Wisconsin. Here he lived at home until twenty-one years of age; at which time he came to Clark County and has from that time been a resident of this county.

On January 6, 1883, he was united in marriage to Electa Jane Barnes. To this union were born a son, John, now of Neillsville, and a daughter, Elsie, Mrs. Ernest Ayers of Granton. He was preceeded in death by his wife eighteen years ago. Most of the time since then, Mr. Ableiter has been a patient sufferer, having been bedridden the past eight years. For many years Mr. Ableiter was a constant student of the Bible and greatly interested in religious topics.

The end came Sunday, April 26, 1925, at the home of his daughter in Granton.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a son, a daughter, six grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, numerous other relatives, and a host of friends.

Among those who attended the funeral were George Ableiter and his son, Kenneth, Mary Barnes, and her husband Charles Barnes, Anna and John McSimac, and Bernard Klais, all of Fennimore, Wisconsin. Albert Ableiter, of Boscobel Wis., Ernest Ayers, wife and children of Granton, and John Ableiter and his wife and children of Neillsville were also in attendance.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 29, in the Congregational Church of Neillsville, the Pastor, Rev. G.W. Longenecker officiating. Interment was made in the West Pine Valley Cemetery.
