Way Back When

 The Thorp Courier  --   July 30, 2008

Recently, Janet Rogalski brought in a set of photos to our office taken by a T. J. Jones, who once had a photograph studio in or around Thorp.  The first of these photos shows a couple in fine, old clothing, at their house.  The man is pointing off towards the left, where the woman is looking.  Pictures and chairs are also scattered in the room with the two.  All that is known is that these two are Mr. and Mrs. Monroe.  Does anyone know who these people are, and about when the photo was taken?  Do you know anything about T. J. Jones, the photographer?  Please share any information you have with us, and our readers.

In the July 16, 2008 issue, we displayed a picture of a car, decked out and carrying waving women.  Joan Burzinski-Doege stopped by to identify the photo as a parade scene.  The car was sponsored by Irene’s Beauty Shop, where Joan worked at the time.  In the photo, Joan is present, the blond woman in the back of the car.  The car is passing by a building that once stood where Garrison Park is currently.  Thanks to Joan for providing this information.

The photo submitted by Alice Danielewicz in the July 2, 2008 Thorp Courier issue, in the Way Back When was of her parents, Louis and Nettie Pagel.  The photo was taken on their wedding day June 30th, 1908.  They had 62 years together, until Nettie passed away in 1970.  Louis passed away in 1980.
