Way Back When

Oh, the good old days when things were so much cheaper.  Forget the fact you may have only made $2.00 a day.  Look over this receipt and compare it to the last mechanic bill you got.  My shop rags charge was more than this entire bill.  How about you?  Do you have any garage tales of woe?  Perhaps you have a super mechanic who can fix anything.  Contact us about this receipt if you have any information.  Your stories are always welcome.

Two Weeks Ago:

The “Way Back When” photograph from the March 14 issue of Thorp Courier depicted an aerial shot from 1940 of the Fourth of July celebration in Thorp.  Mr. John Isaacs of Stanley was selling rides in his Piper Cub airplane during the celebration.  Dick Rasmussen, who was a senior in high school at the time, took the photograph from Mr. Isaacs’ plane.  In the picture, if you look at the upper left hand corner, you can see part of the Legion Hall.  Next to the Legion Hall looking north is the Brandsness’ home.  The next house is Gordie Wolf’s and following that home is Hank Solie’s house.  These homes are all on Washington Street.  The street at the top of the photo is Franklin Street.  Across from the Brandsness residence are the Vader Wage, Moczarny and Paul Zalenincki homes.  The fourth house on Franklin Street belonged to Julius Rasmussen.  This is the home that Dick and Mary Ann Rasmussen were born and raised in. This is the very reason Dick wanted to take the aerial photograph.  Trees in the photograph obscure the home of Wily Wolf whose home was located next to the Rasmussen’s.  This photo was taken with a Baby Brownie camera.
