wpe16.gif (8117 bytes)Pearl (nee Davis) Hales was the first wife to Loren Hales, a son of Albert and Maggie (nee Smithers) Hales, earlier settlers of York Township.   Pearl was the daughter of Jerry and Mary Davis, who came to York Township sometime in the late 1890s.  She was also a sister to Jay Davis, Susanna Benedict (Lulu Kronberger’s mother), and Belle Mortimer (Helen Sisson’s mother); all of whom are buried in York Center Cemetery.  During pregnancy, Pearl suffered appendicitis and had to undergo surgery.  Several weeks after the surgery she died.  Her husband, Loren Hales,  is interred at Windfall Cemetery (Granton, Wisconsin) next to his second wife, Amelia (nee Krause) Hales.
