Elizabeth Lavey

October 6, 1899 - September 26, 1992

Elizabeth “Liz” Lavey was a daughter of Justin and Anna (nee McMahon) Johnson.  Justin Johnson was a son of Oney and Nancy Johnson, who were pioneers of York Township.  Oney Johnson owned a farm on Romadka Road in Section 24.  Justin Johnson owned a farm on Romadka Road in Section 14.  Justin was also a brother to Evah Canfield who was the mother of Alice (nee Canfield) Frank (later known as Allie Phipps).  Alice Canfield and Fred Frank were married on February 26, 1908 at York Center Methodist Church.  Anna Johnson was a daughter of Joseph and Jane McMahon, who were also pioneers of York Township.  Anna Johnson was also a sister to Margaret Free who was married to John Free, a brother to Richard Free (Herbert Free’s father).  Elizabeth Lavey was the wife to Glenn Lavey, a son of Frank and Lillie Lavey, who came to York Township for Calumet County in 1901.  For many years, Glenn and Elizabeth Lavey lived on her father’s farm in Section 14.  In later years, they lived in Section 21 in the brick house on County Highway K (about a ˝ mile north of County Highway C)  where Hubert and Ella Graves lived for many years.
