place he came to Tekamah in 1871 residing here continuously thereafter until his death. Mr. Morehouse always took an interest in public affairs. While a resident of Erie county, New York, he acted for several years as deputy sheriff and held a similar position after his removal to Wisconsin. During the Canadian war of 1840 he formed one of the citizen soldiery.

   ARTHUR M. ANDERSON was born September 21st, 1868, at Oakland, Nebraska. He was educated in the public schools of that city and graduated from the Nebraska State University. In November, 1893, he was elected County Clerk of Burt county and held that office from January 1894 until January 1898. He has acted as City Clerk of Tekamah for a number of years and is now serving his second term as Mayor of the city. He has been engaged in the Abstracting and Real Estate business since retiring from the office of County Clerk.
   August 18th, 1897, Mr. Anderson was united in marriage to Miss Nelle Workman of this city.

   JOHN ELMER SHAFER was born March 11th, 1873, at. Sigourney, Iowa. He accompanied his parents upon their removal to Tekamah in 1882, and also upon their removal to Moran, Kansas in 1884, and back to Tekamah in December, 1885, where he has been a continuous resident since. Mr. Shafer and John P. Cameron were the first students from Tekamah High School to enter the Nebraska State University. He became a registered pharmacist February 12th, 1902.

   J. F. ELLIS was born April 14th, 1845, in New York state, He came to Burt county in March. 1870, locating first in Arizona township. During most of his residence here he has followed the trade of carpenter, he being a first class mechanic. For a few years he gave his attention to mercantile lines both in Tekamah and at Newton. Mr. Ellis has served the county as one of its County Commissioners.

     November 19th, 1873, Mr. Ellis was united in marriage to Miss Ella Newton, of Arizona township. They now reside in Tekamah.

   BUR LATTA was born in Tekamah, October 31st, 1879, where he has resided continuously since. He attended the Tekamah public schools and after graduation there took the management of his father, J. P. Latta's, large ranching interests in this county.
   Mr. Latta was united in marriage October 1st, 1902, to Miss Ellen Harrington, of this city.

   SILAS HOLT GREENLEAF was born April 4th, 1831. in Westport, an Island in Sheepscott Bay, Maine. His home was near the water and he frequently said the "lobsters and fishes were my playthings." When merely a boy he went to the Banks fishing and at eighteen was skipper of a fishing schooner. At twenty-one he was master of a coaster. During the Civil war he carried supplies to the Union army. Later he commanded the barks "Gan Eden" and "Matthew Baird" and visited many ports in Europe, South America and Africa. The bark "Matthew Baird" carried twenty locomotives and tenders for a cargo.
   In 1882 he visited Nebraska and was so pleased with the country that he removed here in 1883. Here he purchased large land interests and followed farming until his death which occurred November 30th, 1902. He made frequent visits to Maine but was more than satisfied to live here as he thought it the finest climate he had ever known.
   Mr. Greenleaf was united in marriage December 1st, 1868, to Arabella A. Farnham.

   JAMES P. LATTA was born in Ashland county, Ohio, October 31st, 1844. At the age of two years he accompanied his parents who removed to Jackson county, Iowa. Here he assisted his father upon the farm until 1863 when he removed to Nebraska reaching Burt
