George Lindsley

July 11, 1832 - August 8, 1901

wpe20.gif (9750 bytes)George Lindsley was born in Jefferson County, New York, a son of Elijah and Harriet (nee Webster) Lindsley.  At the age of 16 (circa 1848), George and his father (who had become a widower) moved to Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.  On April 15, 1856, he married the former Sarah Lawrence, who was the daughter of Jesse and Almeda (nee Benedict) Lawrence.  The 1870 Federal Census for Fond du Lac lists a George (37) and Sarah (30) Lindsley living in Alto Township.  The Lindsleys eventually moved to Clark County and arrived in York Township on October 15, 1880.  George Lindsley was a Civil War veteran who enlisted in 1862 and served with General Sherman on his march to the sea.  He also participated in the Grand Review at Washington D.C.  One of George and Sarah Lindsley's sons, Ernest Lindsley, married Ella Livingston.  Ernest and Ella’s son, Dean Lindsley is buried in York Center Cemetery.  George and Sarah’s daughter, Harriet (Hattie) Turner is also interred in York Center Cemetery.
