Richardson County is found in extreme southeast Nebraska and is bordered by Nemaha County on the north, Pawnee County on the west, Brown County, KS and Nemaha County,KS on the south and across the Missouri River by Holt County, MO on the east. This county was opened for settlement by the passing of the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854 and took its name from William A. Richardson, a sponsor of the bill and later the 3rd governor of Nebraska Territory.
