Margaret Benedict

August 30, 1859 - April 24, 1937

Margaret Benedict was the wife of Sanford W. Benedict, the oldest son of Adonijah Benedict, a pioneer of York Township and a Civil War veteran.  Margaret was the daughter of Sophronia Windsor and Harvey Lawrence.  Harvey Lawrence died while serving in the Civil War and was a brother to Jesse Lawrence, another pioneer of York Township.  She came to York Township in the 1870s with her mother, her brother, G. Walter Lawrence,  and her grandfather, Anson Windsor.  Her mother married Edwin B. Bassett, another early settler of York Township.  Therefore, Margaret was a stepsister to Byron L. and Edwin A. Bassett.  Her children include William Benedict, Isabelle Smith, and Rollie Benedict, all of whom are buried in York Center Cemetery.  In addition, she had another son, Merle, who married the former Nora Judd.  Both Merle and Nora Judd are buried in Loyal Cemetery.
