Belle Smith

May 9, 1881 - August 11, 1962

wpe5.gif (8194 bytes)Belle (nee Benedict) Smith was a daughter of Sanford W. and Margaret (nee Lawrence) Benedict.  Sanford Benedict was the oldest son of Adonijah Benedict, a pioneer of York Township and Civil War veteran.  Margaret Benedict was a daughter of Harvey and Sophronia (nee Windsor) Lawrence/Bassett; Harvey being a brother to Jesse Lawrence and Sophronia being a daughter to Anson Windsor and a sister to Lorinda Lawrence (Horace A. Lawrence’s first wife), Esther Livingston (Sam Livingston's wife) and Jane Palmer (Joseph Palmer's wife).  Belle was a sister to William E. and Rollie Benedict.  She married Guy Smith, who was a son of Clarendon and Emma Smith, who were early pioneers of York Township.  One of Guy and Belle Smith’s children, Robert Smith is also buried in York Center Cemetery.
